First Contact
It has been almost fours years now since I bought my Kevlar OffShore. I was in one off my "apathetic" moods when I decided to buy something different. Being tired of the watches I already had, that sometimes happens, I set my sites on the Kevlar Offshore. Unfortunately due to its awkwardness no dealer offered it here in Madrid (Spain) so I had to look for it somewhere else. As always in these things I resorted in one of my favorite "Gray Market" dealers in Barcelona (this is never my first choice, but since the official dealers in my area did not stock it...) It was a "blind" purchase with a great deal of "impulse" as well.
Impressions
Two days later I opened the parcel... I was stunned!!! I must admit that this is one of the few times that I can recall where I was that surprised. Pictures do not make this watch any justice. The finishing was simply perfect, this not being my first Oak I wasn't really concerned or worried. What stuck me most was the combination between the Kevlar strap and Steel case. The Kevlar strap is well executed but is not very resistant in summer conditions, sweat will cause the strap to smell and water tends to make the Kevlar decompose.
Day-to-Day
It really is a eye catcher, no doubt about that. Since it is extremely sporty it looks great with a sport shirt in sumer. Actually it is probably one of the least "combinable" watch that I ever owned, impossible with a suit... I find this one to be one of my favorites for the summer. It gets 70% of my summer wrist time, which considering, is quiet good.
Accuracy
Other than using the Chrono for timing the Pizza Delivery Boy there is really no use for a Chrono in my life, although I could "not" see this watch in any other way. The Kevlar strap is very comfortable even when wet, it dries within the hour.
Verdict
This is one of my favorites OffShores and now that this "case" has been discontinued it is even more. Like all Royal Oaks maintenance costs are close to being ridiculous, beware. I gave my jeweler the watch back in October last year for a maintenance service. Now it's June and I have not received the watch yet... it has been 8 months...
