Nautilus "Moon"
by Patek Philippe

Watch Magazine Editor
If we are not talking about a watchmaking revolution, any Patek deserves respect, due to the high level of manufacturing that has remained constant since the creation of the brand. This model offers just that level of manufacturing and, on top of that, a good compromise between a sporty style and a complication. Practical and functional.
Fashion/Life Style Editor
Sometimes, any past time was better. Patek Philippe versions of a classic such as this one have not improved the past but have helped recall it instead. That's not good.

Very nice, but completely cynical attempt to squeeze more revenue from an already over-extended design. The original Nautilus, and especially the Jumbo, are great watches. All the derivatives are droll.
Collector
Unlike AP's sports models Patek has paid little attention to this model to the point of almost shunning it, or so it seems. It was about time that PP made something more "interesting" with the Nautilus. I am definitely getting one!

The first version with noticeable complications in the Nautilus lineup is the incarnation, according to PP, of the "Sport Chic". What we do not know is to whom such a Sports watch with such complications is targeted to. Now, this year at least, the Manufacture has put more effort in novelties. Quiet an improvement compared to last years total darkness.

What a pity. The Nautilus is, IMO, one of the nicest watches, but these complications break her its pureness. The only thing I'd leave is that discrete power-reserve. Such a sporty watch does not need anything else.

Love it, love it, love it. The first encroachment on the RO's territory by Patek who are finally offering complications in their legendary piece. The glass back and pushers for the calendar and moon phase means that the water resistance in now only 60 meters instead of 100 meters. But that's still plenty for the pool during business trips. More Nautilus variations to come in 2006 with the anniversary of Genta's Nautilus design.
Importer
Even though is not my favorite PP case, with this movement at least, grab my attention.

Modernizing a classic without loosing any of its standing in the world of the greats.

A low investment revamp creates a 'tough dresswatch'. Moonphase pusher downsgrades the waterproofness to a lowly 60m; good enough but not a real sportswatch anymore with the 240 in it. Whimsical dial layout worked on the 5055/5085's circular face, but port hole? Growing on me.
