Pierre Kunz "GD"
by Pierre Kunz

There's only so many times you can run through the photocopier. We arrive at the weakest design derivative of his watches so far. Time to move onto some new ideas Pierre..

Nothing really new. Almost a typical calendar solution integrated in Kunz's typical bulky design (exclusive for "big" boys). I prefer other Kunz models less "colored." In general, I find Pierre Kunz very interesting (the man) but regarding the brand, personally, I'll keep away from everything with a Watchland smell. Their products don't hold value very well. It's easy to find a brand-new retrograde Kunz at a 40% discount at outlet shops. We all know the reasons. Let's see what he can do if someday he gains his independence. I have faith in him.

It was only a few years ago when Piere Kunz surprised us with the original layout of his dials and his peculiar way to present time. Now, you've seen one, you've seen then all...

PK watches hold their strong personality... You can recognize them wherever you see them. I like retrogrades.

I have always had a weakness for nearly all the PK dial layouts I’ve seen; they always seem to make a good dramatic effect with their combination of black background and Roman numerals. The cases also look impressive with their simple stark lines and hint of Breguet. However, when you see them in the flesh, they don’t work as well as they do in pictures: the elegance gets lost with the large case dimension and the effect is lumpy. PK’s fascination with retrograde indicators is well known, but I sincerely doubt his concentration on it will continue for many years more. That’s why PK is on my hold list: I’m waiting until he refines his obvious talents in the next few years- his great work is still to come.

Nice watch, although a bit too obscure...

Definitely not my favorite Pierre Kunz. Maybe it is because I find the dial too colorful. It is, though, the only brand from Watchland that I trust.
